Six functions of zinc oxide in powder coatings.

Let's learn about the role of zinc oxide in powder coatings with Hishine.

1. Use as white paint as well as filler

Zinc oxide is a white pigment, also known as zinc white. Because its coloring force is smaller than titanium dioxide. The color paste weighing is convenient, adjustment is easy and accurate, and the color sensitivity is reduced.

2. A little used in epoxy resins containing carboxyl functional groups to improve the characteristics of the coating.

Zinc oxide is alkaline, which can reflect with carboxyl functional groups in epoxy resin to form zinc soap to improve the flexibility and strength of the coating, and the coating is cleaner than that of titanium dioxide.

3. Promote the reaction of epoxy group and carboxyl group.

In epoxy resin/polyester, polyester/TGIC and other electrostatic powders, the carboxyl group reaction is accelerated, the dry solid reaction is catalyzed, and the solidification time is reduced.

4. As a conductive functional filler

In some industrial applications must be antistatic or conductive electrostatic acts. As a metal oxide, zinc oxide has a certain conductivity, so it is widely used as a conductive filler in this architectural coating

5. It has the function of shielding ultraviolet light

Zinc oxide is a reasonable and inexpensive white light stabilizer. In particular, it has good safety protection ability for UV light in the range of 240--380nm. It is often used in electrostatic powder, especially for outdoor electrostatic powder with good UV shielding ability, which can increase the service life of the coating.

6. It has the effect of removing mold and bacteria

Zinc oxide has strong bactericidal ability, which is used in water-soluble architectural coatings. Used in electrostatic powder also has the actual effect of mildew removal
